Here at the Walled Nursery, we believe there is no such thing as a silly question. Whether you are looking to broaden your knowledge or are starting from scratch, our friendly, informative courses are accessible for everyone.

Emma Davies, co-owner of the Walled Nursery, delivers our varied range of courses. There is always lots of hands-on learning and most importantly, fun!

2019 Courses

Beginners Guide To Growing Vegetables
Thursday 28th March – 9.30am to 3pm
£95.00 per person including refreshments, delicious lunch in our Vinery Café and course notes.

This is a beginners course, starting with where to locate your vegetable garden, what makes a good spot for veg growing, planning which crops to grow, raising plants from seed, staking, harvesting, succession crops, different growing techniques and fail safe crops to start with ...no question is too silly to ask! No need to bring anything with you, just an open mind! This course is delivered by Emma Davies, co-owner of the nursery.

Beginners Guide to Propagation
Friday 29th March 2019 9.30am to 3pm.
£95.00 per person including refreshments, delicious lunch in our Vinery Café and course notes.

In this hands-on course you will learn how to sow seeds, how to prick out, take root, stem and leaf cuttings, division, seed collection and so much more. Emma Davies, co-owner of The Walled Nursery will take you behind the scenes and go through each method of propagating ensuring that you are equipped to go forth and multiply! Bring along a pair of secateurs and gloves and wear layers! All other equipment is supplied. This course takes place in our beautiful Propagation glasshouse and includes a delicious vegetarian lunch in our Vinery Café and refreshments.

Planning a cut flower garden
Thursday 4th April – 9.30am to 3pm
£95.00 per person including refreshments, delicious lunch in our Vinery Café and course notes.

Do you want a steady supply of flowers to cut to bring into your home? Find out which plants are the best for cutting, not just annuals but perennial plants too. Learn about growing plants from seed directly into the ground or in pots, staking requirements and how to keep a continuous supply.  We go through how to condition your plants so that they last and how to arrange a simple hand held bouquet. No need to bring anything with you, just your eager minds!  Delivered by Emma Davies, Co-Owner of the nursery.

Gardening Demystified… what, when and how?
Friday 5th April – 9.30am to 3pm. A one day course
£95.00 per person including refreshments, delicious lunch in our Vinery Café and course notes.

If you like the idea of gardening but just don’t know where to start, then this is the course for you. Broken down into manageable chunks, starting with the different types of plants and how they grow. We go through the processes involved in keeping a garden so that it’s manageable and enjoyable and you get the best from it within the time you have available.  It’s easy once you know how! We call a weed a weed and a spade a spade, intended for real beginners, no question is a silly question, but we won’t promise we won’t have a giggle! Relaxed and fun learning environment with plenty of garden to explore on site.

Designing a border from scratch
Tuesday 24th April and Wednesday 25th April  – A two day course, 9.30am to 3pm
£180.00 per person including refreshments, delicious lunch in our Vinery Café , course notes and a border design plan.

This two day course runs from 9.30am to 3pm each day. Run by Emma Davies, co-owner of the nursery, Emma teaches you  how to design new borders in your garden. We’ll learn about different styles, designers proven techniques,  the processes involved in creating a border to ensure you have interest and structure all year round. We’ll discuss which plants will give you the most for your money and how the creation of a border is not simply a one off job but something that you should review and refine as the years go by, think of your borders as a living piece of art. If you are planning your own border in your own garden then make sure you know the measurements, aspect and soil type and bring all of this information with you on the day. No equipment is needed. We will create a paper plan throughout the course.
